Overanalyzing

mouse - mice
house - houses?

How do you explain that? I was trying to teach about irregular Spanish verbs today. Sometimes there just isn't an explanation. Our very very analytical language school student insists that there IS an explanation. There's ALWAYS an explanation. Hmmm... "because I say so" just doesn't work with him.

you were teaching spanish to someone and they didn't understand it is a "just because"?
"A judge was bribed."
"It's a conspiracy so that the natives could be easily identified."
"It was a smudge in the ink waaaaaaaaaaay back in the first grammer books that no one ever cared to correct."
Think any of those would work?
