In need of a friend...

Ever since I was a teenager in the US, I have been blessed with several close girl friends. You know, the friends you can call up and go out for coffee and chat about life, go shopping with, or just talk on the phone for a few moments. When we moved to Nicaragua I was blessed with another really good girl friend. We spoke every day, went shopping together (even grocery shopping), and ministered together. I wasn't prepared for the absolute loneliness that sometimes engulfs me here in Mexico. I may be surrounded by people, but they don't really KNOW me and I don't know them.

During this holiday time I have definitely fought against drowning in the sea of loneliness. My birthday brought over 60 "Happy Birthday" wishes on facebook, but in person it was a different story, no one to take me out to lunch, bring me a cake, sing me a song. I have always celebrated my birthday with at least one friend doing something or other. I see my acquaintances around here, and they all have family around, constant activity in their homes. Maybe they would say they don't have friends either, but the laughter and community they have in their homes says something different to me.

This Sunday we need to write some of our dreams for 2009 and release them to God. I am going to ask Him to give me a friend. I'll keep you updated. Pray for me to be content in the waiting.

Hey Jan, thanks for commenting on my SCL post. It's nice to make your blog acquaintance! In reading your post here, I've got to say, I can relate. We are meant to be social creatures, but some of us are more sensitive to aloneness than others. I think I use the blogs as a way to connect with people. God bless in the coming year and happy blogging!

I've been there too, and it's hard. When I moved to Omaha, it took a long time to find friends. I am blessed now to have several close friends. I pray that God does the same for you. Though I have to say, I am so happy to be getting to know you better.
