Man on Fire

There's been a lot of talk in the media lately about the kidnappings that are occurring at an alarming rate in Mexico. The official number of kidnappings last year was 751, but many more go undocumented because of lack of trust in the police force, since they are often involved in the sequestering. Some agencies report that there may have been as many as 7,000 kidnappings last year! Yes, that's 10 times the reported amount.

We saw a movie last week, Man on Fire, starring Denzel Washington and made in 2004. It is incredibly violent, but it shows the reality of life for many people living in Mexico City. I'm thankful to live in a tranquil pueblo, but the thought does cross my mind when my kids leave the house to walk to church or the corner store. It's just one of those things that I have to put in God's hands and trust Him with. It's not always easy, but it is putting the rubber to the road with my faith. I make sure I trust Him, walk in wisdom, and not be beaten by the terrorists who are roaming the streets of Mexico looking for whom they may devour.

Hi Jan,

It was nice to see my picture on your wall. It blessed me.

I was super careful when we took our trip to Ensenada and Tijuana to keep the girls close. My cousin Amber had told me about the kidnappings. I wasn't even aware that there was a problem.
